There’s not been much bloggy stuff going on lately; I’ve been busy with that whole War Stores thing, the writing of which was the reason for creating this blog in the first place, but just because I’m doing a lot of writey stuff doesn’t mean I can’t indulge in some drawey stuff too.
This week’s drawings are Pokémon based, because I actually love Pokémon way more than I love Steven Universe and my doodling habits should reflect that.
Just a quick art entry this week, courtesy of onlyfragments, who described Lapis Lazuli’s current characterization in Steven Universe as “Daria-esque”. I decided to draw it.
When I first started this blog I warned that I’d be talking about World of Warcraft a lot, and so far I haven’t really kept to that promise/threat. I spoke a couple of months ago about how the community’s perception of class balance was itself creating imagined imbalances that placed a lot of needless constraints and pressure on nearly the entire endgame community. Creating problems for themselves is a constant feature of WoW’s playerbase; and today I’m going to look at another system that players use as a noose to fasten around their necks: Artifact Power.
The writers did you dirty, Bismuth. But not I! This week’s picture, at the suggestion of my very best friend, is of the Crystal Gem, Bismuth AKA. One of the most betrayed-by-the-writers characters to ever exist. I’ve decided to give the poor Gem a break from the needless tragedy of her storyline and draw her just relaxing in the sunset.
Hello there! This isn’t a scheduled blog post, but rather something I’ve put up here just for fun. Currently I am taking an online course in how to sell yourself (since, as Frank Zappa once said: “art is making something out of nothing and then selling it.”) and have briefly mentioned my writing there. Someone on that site wanted to read some of my stuff, saying they liked “short fiction”. As I live to please, I have dredged through my hard drive and fished up the only two surviving examples of flash fiction I have (with the others being lost to time). Here we go.
So, I know I haven’t been fantastic at keeping up my blog’s schedule so far, but since the cosmos have seen fit to bless me with a few spoons as of late I am going to invest some of them into getting back into the swing of things. That means one drawing from me per week; if only so the “and also draws” tagline on my blog makes sense. Please don’t expect anything close to quality here! This is purely a hobbyist trying to improve, rather than a proper artist showing off their stuff. With that out the way, let’s have a look at what I done this week…
Peridot is autistic. We need to establish this fact here and now. I don’t care if it hasn’t been stated in canon. I don’t care you think it’s reaching. I don’t care that this a children’s cartoon about genderless space rocks. Peridot is one autistic space Dorito, and that’s a fact beyond dispute. I know it. You know it. Everybody knows it. That girl’s on the spectrum.
Oh what, it’s been a month and a half? Bloody hell, I am shit at blogging. I paid for the fancypants domain name, I should probably try and use this thing more.
I’m just not really inclined to air what I’m thinking out loud publicly, which is why my Twitter keeps collecting dust over and over and over again. But at the same time, you have to be all social networky these days if you want to do anything, right? Ah well. Time for some inane chitchat.
I’m not going to bother doing the whole “cor blimey 2016 was wank but 2017 is going to be better” stuff because years aren’t real. The sludgy river of time is trickling onward and we’re being dragged along for the ride. Still, I’m going to express some hope that maybe, just maybe, some specific things are going to be better from now on, in little ways.
